Leather is worn with bumps on corners, wear and fading on hinges, and scuffing on boards, but binding is strong. A Latin-language edition of Martial's Epigrams, The twelve books of poetry that make the work is Martial's most famous composition and credits him as the world's most famous and influential epigrammatist with a work that brings humanity and character to the brutality and colour of Roman life.
