A three part survey of the angling rivers of Britain and Ireland, a description of their fishes and an account of the baits and artificial flies employed to catch them. Samuel Taylor (1748/49-1811) was born in or near Shrewsbury, where he developed his love of angling in the local rivers. His 1800 book was the culmination of more than forty years' experience in the practice. He was also well known as a stenographer and practitioner of the art of shorthand.
