L'Arte del Libro e Della Rivista nei Paesi d'Europa e d'America (2 vols.)
Bologna, Italy: Cesare Ratta, 1928. Hardcover. F+ (Boards and spines are substantially worn and aged; some missing spine material; pages are only slightly aged at outermost margins; illus. are terrific and clean; would benefit greatly by rebinding.). 2 vols. Tan paper and decorated boards, Volume I: 424 pp., with 590 illus. Volume II: 13 text pp., 500 plate pages with 1025 illus., 8 color illus. tipped in. Various colored inks used throughout. Main text is in Italian, with initial title pages also in English and French. A two-volume highly illustrated set, filled with examples of American and European book and manuscript art. The variety of examples means that a variety of language texts appear, in addition to the author-compiler's Italian. The first volume contains narrative around the illustrations. The second volume begins with an introduction in Italian by Marcus De Rubris, followed by 500 plate pages of examples. The second volume includes an index to the set and a bibliography. This is indeed a browser's delight for graphic designers and any others who appreciate the artwork of older printed publications. One set of only 750 sets printed. Volume I is stamped as #492, Volume II as #192.
