Leipzig: Bernard Tauchnitz, 1846. First Tauchnitz edition, same year as the London first, the copyright edition for Tauchnitz?s Collection of English Authors Vol. CIII. Small 8vo, in handsome contemporary three-quarter calf over marbled boards, the spine with raised bands ruled in gilt, one compartment with a dark brown morocco label gilt ruled and lettered, page edges marbled, marbled endpapers. 263pp. A very pleasing and very nice copy of this charming little book, internally extremely clean and fresh. The handsome binding solid and attractive with only very minor expected signs of age. A VERY NICE COPY INDEED OF THE SCARCE TAUCHNITZ EDITION. This is Dickens? beautiful reminiscence of a tour through Italy as it could only be told by one of England?s greatest writers. Dickens provides for the armchair traveler a descriptive journey through some of the most scenic areas and cities in Italy and France. His poetic and descriptive style, made famous in his many novels, is well suited to this type of travel log.
