Sydney: Thomas Richards, 1881. A little rubbed.. Thick large octavo, frontispiece and another plate, diagrams, two folding coloured maps and folding coloured plan; the superior issue in pictorially gilt-stamped morocco. The Sydney International Exhibition opened its doors on 17 September 1879 and closed them seven months later. During this time over a million visitors passed through, making the exhibition a determining landmark in the history of the Colony of New South Wales, reflecting the State's sense of achievement, progress, and aspirations.The main feature of the Sydney exhibition was the ornate building, the 'Garden Palace', designed by the Colonial Architect James Barnet, its accidental destruction by fire on 22 September 1882 was met with universal dismay.
