Durham, NC: Duke University Press, 1989. Paperback. SIGNED. First edition thus, first printing. Fine paperback with a hint of rubbing at the tips. A very nice copy. BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. Photographs by Helen Levitt; essay by James Agee. xv + 86 full-page gravure-printed b&w plates; 9.5 x 10.75 inches. SIGNED BY LEVITT on the half title; no inscription. The first book by Levitt (1913-2009), put together in 1946 and first printed in 1965. This, the third edition, included 36 additional photographs and the corrected Agee text (12 more plates than the second version.) The only photographers Walker Evans "felt had something original to say were Cartier-Bresson, Helen Levitt and himself." (James R. Mellow) "At the peak of Helen's form there was no one better." (John Szarkowski) A seminal 20th century photography book.
