Royal Flash.
London: Barrie and Jenkins, 1970.. First Edition. Octavo. pp.[9], 261, [4]. Bound in publisher's red cloth, with titles and publisher's imprint to spine; illustrative map endpapers. Pictorial dust wrapper, designed by A.E. Barbosa, shows two elegant gentlemen in full regalia against a palatial interior, with titles in white and yellow to front cover and spine, rear cover continues illustration, and includes a cryptic blurb; unclipped, originally priced 30 s or £1.50. Binding is clean, bright, and presentable, with some dustiness/spotting to page edges. Dust jacket is likewise bright, rubbed and with small chips to edges. The second Flashman novel, and the only one to be set in a fictional location, Royal Flash mixes Flashman with the intrigue and court politics surrounding the Schleswig-Holstein question - the consequences are both entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable.
