Washington: Government Printing Office. Good. c. 1854. Hardcover. Dark brown boards with title gilt and blind embossed on front, and title gilt with blind embossed designs on spine. Boards have moderate soiling and wear; spine has a 6" tear, starting from the bottom edge; spine is chipping on bottom and is bumped on top; all corners have light wear and bumping. Text block and maps are in good condition: pastedowns and endpapers have moderate dampstaining, heavy foxing and moderate soiling; maps have light foxing and light to moderate soiling, especially at folds; many maps have small tears and creases, some affecting content. Unpaginated but collated and complete with 42 fold-out maps and illustrations. Maps are in b&w and vary in size. These maps and illustrations accompanied reports presented to the Senate in 1853 from various people, including: Commissioner of the General Land Office, Chief Engineer, Col. Topographical Engineers, and Commander W. F. Lynch. Some maps and illustrations of note include an early map of Chicago Harbor, surveys in the state of Florida, surveys of the San Diego River, Lake Ponchartrain, Louisiana, and a map of the Republic of Liberia, Africa. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
