Captain Kiddle and his crew (which includes a Mexican, a Black American, a native American, a Jew, a Mongolian cook and others) are shipwrecked in the Arctic region and make land on a temperate island in an open sea where they are enslaved by seven-foot tall natives. Also present on the island are enslaved members a race of people who lived in the region long before the "creation of man." Includes a 200-foot long sea serpent that occasionally ventures out of sea and chases the natives, a fountain of youth which rejuvenates limbs put into it, a pool which petrifies flesh instantly, giant birds of prey with 30-foot wing spans, ruins of a vast uninhabited city of great antiquity at the north pole, and more. "Sinbad-like adventures" according to Wright; "of no interest" according to Bleiler. Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years 781. Clareson, Science Fiction in America, 1870s-1930s 300.
