The Bertrams: A Novel
London: Chapman & Hall, 1859 - 3 vols, 8vo, original blind-stamped brown cloth, gilt lettering. ? A story partly set in the Middle East, where Trollope began it: "The Bertrams was begun in Egypt, and written in the Mediterranean, in Malta, Gibraltar, England, Ireland, Scotland, and finished in the West Indies," (Victoria Glendinning, Anthony Trollope). Hence the book has something of a travelogue flavor to it. The Bertrams is also one of Trollope's scarcest first editions in original cloth. Contemporary ink signature on each front paste-down. Inner hinges skillfully repaired; bindings slightly askew; cloth a little worn; very nice copy. Sadleir, Trollope, 8; NCBEL III, 882; not in Wolff, who had only the American edition [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
