The Family Reunion
London: Faber and Faber Limited, 1939. First edition. 136 pp. 8vo. Publisher's gray cloth lettered in red along spine. Spine sunned, small stain to front cover, in supplied first state dust-jacket. First edition. 136 pp. 8vo. Signed by Eliot. Signed ("T.S. Eliot") on the title-page. "In the late 1930s, Eliot attempted to conflate a drama of spiritual crisis with a Noël Coward-inspired contemporary theater of social manners. Though Eliot based The Family Reunion on the plot of Aeschylus's Eumenides, he designed it to tell a story of Christian redemption. The play opened in the West End in March 1939 and closed to mixed reviews five weeks later" (ODNB). Gallup A33a
