1616 - Antique Master Print, untitled. Figures resting in landscape near dilipidated barn and distant village. From a series of 60 landscapes, published by C.J. Visscher in 1616. State: 1st state before numbering. Ref: H.247. Etching / engraving on hand laid (verge type with chainlines) paper. Made by 'Jan van de Velde II' after own design. Jan van de Velde II (1593-1641) came from the southern Netherlands as a fugitive around 1600 to the Netherlands. His father was a writingmaster and Jan trained as an etcher. He produced many highly important series of landscape prints. Very good, given age. Trimmed just outside plate mark, as is common with these prints. Light stain in middle. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 20.2 x 13.2 cm. The image size is ca. 19.8 x 12.6 cm.
