Paris: Jean Richer, 1603. Hardcover. Very good. 60p. 14 cm red cloth hardcover binding with "Harvard University Library" in gilt impressed in lower corner of front board. Gold lettering on spine. Book was completely rebound. FRENCH language text. Some wear to boards with stain and wear to front board and bumps to corners. Pages have small wormholes in lower corner and there is some foxing. Text clear and unmarked. Étienne Tabourot (1549-90) was a French author of the Renaissance or Early Modern period. He was prolific, writing poetry, comic prose, and nonfiction prose including work on the education of children. He was also a member of the Catholic League during the Huguenot Wars. This volume, also known as "Les Apothegms," is a collection of comic tales surrounding the character of Lord Gaulard.
