Contemporary gift inscription to front free endpaper. Top edges slightly darkened, endpapers lightly tanned, mild toning to margins of textblock. An excellent copy in a price-clipped and rubbed jacket with a couple of small chips to spine ends and lower front panel, a few nicks and small closed tears to extremities, and minor wear affecting the 'c' in 'face'. Frontispiece and 11 full-page black and white illustrations by Dorothy P. Lathrop. First edition, first printing of this story by Dhan Gopal Mukerji (1890-1936), winner of the 1928 Newbery Medal for his Gay-Neck: the Story of a Pigeon. [Attributes: First Edition]
