Whibley, Charles
A Book of Scoundrels
London Constable and Company 1910 - 283pp. Publisher's black buckram titled and decorated in gilt to spine and front board with charming "gibbet and noose" design, Minor edgewear and staining to the black boards, a very good copy. Edges untrimmed. Internally clean, pencil ownership to front pastedown. Effectively a critical examination of the similarities between notable "scoundrels" (although some of those present are now viewed in a more heroic mould than they were in 1910), including Moll Cutpurse, Jonathan Wild (nope, he's still pretty awful), Captain Hind and a bevy of others. A fascinating collection with a fair amount of historical detail, now quite rare, unless you happen to favour print on demand. ecat2 [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
