Salmon, N.
The History of Hertfordshire; Describing the County, and its Antient Monuments, Particularly the Roman. With The Character of Those that have been the chief Possessors of the Lands. And An Account of the most Memorable Occurences.
London Printed in the Year M.DCC.XXVIII First Edition 1728 - Tall folio; [8],map,368p. Attractive binding of slightly later half red morocco, marbled sides which are rubbed with slight loss to the marbled paper, the spine with raised bands, lettering direct, small gilt ornaments in compartments, double gilt ruled fillets. Slight rubbing but joints and hinges are sound, boards firm, original marbled endpapers present. The foredge of the title page and following three leaves show evidence of slight fire damage, and these have been expertly repaired. There is no other damage and the burn markings are only evidence to the verso of the four leaves. With the contemporary ownership inscription on the title page of John Entiwstle of Foxholed, Rochdale, dated 1807. He came from a wealthy Lancashire family and was MP for Rochdale. Interestingly he also notes the cost of the book (£1-11.6) and its binding (10-6). Overall a Nr VG attractively bound copy. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
