1643. Small 4to. Pp. (viii), 309, index (14). With one engraved portrait. Title within woodcut frame. Contemporary vellum, stained. First three leaves reinforced at inner margin. Text browned. First Italian edition of this informative treatise on China mainly written for the support of the Jesuit mission there. It's based on the first Spanish edition (Madrid in 1642) but includes some amendments as well as some additional material. This Italian version is the preferred edition according to Lach & Van Kley. Álvaro Semedo (1586 - 1658), Portugese Jesuit, lived and worked in China for over 20 years (1617 - 37).
