Basel: Johannes Hervagius, 1537. First Edition. Hardcover (Vellum). Very Good Condition. Old vellum, worn at edges and bands, some discoloration. Lacking front and rear blanks, otherwise complete. First few gatherings with a dampstain in the outer margin, scattered mostly minor foxing and browning; still about very good overall. A complete and attractive copy of the first Hervagius Latin Euclid, reprinted in 1546 with Melanchthon's preface which was sometimes censored. (8), 587, (1)pp. With the printer's mark on the final page. Bookplate of Pierre N. LeBrun (son of architect Napoleon LeBrun). Adams E974, Graesse II 511, "The Elements is a compilation of all earlier Greek mathematical knowledge since Pythagoras" (PMM 25).
