The Alpine Ski Club Annual. A Record of Winter Mountaineering by Members of the... No. 2
London: Horace Marshall & Son, 1909.. 8vo. (ii), 86, (12) pp. Original printed wrappers, spine sometime sympathetically repaired preserving much of the original and restored in places with a matching paper. 12 plates, each mostly featuring 2 illustrations. Very good. The annual was published between 1908 and 1913, after which time it merged with the Yearbook of the Ski Club of Great Britain, with which it shared some of its contributors. This issue includes articles by W.R Rickmers ("At Random - Two Avalanches"), Arnold Lunn ("The Oberland from End to End") and Henry Hoek ("A Fortnight in the Dolomites"). Towards the end of the volume an account of the club's inaugural annual dinner is provided, presided over by Sir Martin Conway and with the guest of honour Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose speech is recounted over the best part of three pages. Scarce. A few sets of all six volumes are located in institutional libraries, one in the UK and three in the US, plus one issue of this volume on its own in this country.
