London: Nicholas Bourne and Richard Royston. 1645. Octavo Size. Good Condition. Half-leather. Leather at corners quite worn. Leather spine is rubbed at edges and ends but title and decoration clear and bright. Suggest possible early nineteenth century rebind. Front hinge starting. All pages are discoloured with age and some appear wavy - possibly minor damp effect. Text block is quite legible. Previous owner's details, dated 1823, to front free end paper. 227 pages Dr Featley [1582-1645] was an English theologian and clergyman who experienced the full tempestuousness of the English Civil War being a chaplain in ordinary to Charles 1. In 1643 Parliamentarian troops attempted to murder him, his was then brought before a committee and voted out of his living. Subsequently he was imprisoned as a spy and his estates were sequestered. He died of illnesses contracted whilst in prison. The full title of this, his most famous book, is 'The Dippers dipt. or, The Anabaptists Duck'd and Plung'd Over Head and Eares, at a Disputation in Southwark Together with a large and full Discourse of their 1.
