Bookplate and minor spots in volume one, and a small stain at the bottom of pages 133-136 in volume two. Emile" is a treatise on education in five books, condemned by the governing bodies of the day. Rousseau was obliged to leave France to avoid arrest. A landmark text for the Romantics, including Coleridge and Wordsworth. His philosophies strongly affected Marie Antoinette, and her village at the Petite Trianon was built with them in mind. A foundational text for any collectors of early 19th Century British Literature or the French Revolution. This text is in the original French.
