BASILICA CHYMICA continens philosophicam propria laborum experientia confirmatam descriptionem et usum remediorum chymicorum selectissimorum e` lumine gratiae & naturae desumptorum
Colonia Allobrogum (Geneva), no name, Venundantur in Officina Fabriana, 1610.. In fine additus est eiusdem autoris tractatus novus de signaturis rerum internis. Very early edition 1610 (first published in Frankfurt in 1608), 2 parts in 1 volume, the tract "De signaturis rerum internis," has a separate half-title page and pagination, but the register is consecutive throughout. Latin text, small 8vo, approximately 160 x 100 mm, 6¼ x 23¾ inches, engraved device of Sebastian Gryphius (griffin) on first title page with motto "Virtute Duce", no printer named, a few head- and tailpieces and decorated initials, 2 large woodcuts (pages 319 and 323), and lists of alchemical signs and symbols on KK8-LL1, pages:(40), 1-364, (60); (14), 1-92, (36), collation: ¶-¶¶8, ¶¶¶4, A-MM8, NN4 (-NN4 which is a blank), bound in full modern calf, raised bands to spine, gilt titled black morocco label, top edges brown, new endpapers. The preliminary pages contain "De vera antiqua philosophica medicina elegia" by Ulrich Bollinger, found at the end of the volume in other editions. Title page and following 12 leaves very slightly browned at edges, tiny worm track in text from ¶5-A1, another starts on C1 and continues to D8 with partial loss of some letters, all easily legible, top corner missing on 6 leaves of prelims, no loss of printed area, small chip to fore-edge margin of ¶5 due to paper flaw, no loss, A1 repaired neatly in inner margin, L8r (page 175) is misprinted so that the fore-edge margin is very wide and the inner margin is not visible, all still easily legible, occasional very light margin … [Click Below for Full Description]
