Accessit eiusde Discursus Oratorius in expugnationem Sassae Gandavensis. 1645. Lugduni Batavorum, Ex Officina Joannis Maire. [48] 334 pages. Collated and complete. Roughly 2 ¼ by 4 ¼ inches. With an engraved title page. Text mostly in Latin with a few first pages in Greek. Antonius Thysius (1603-1665), a Dutch theologian, scholar and professor at Leiden, wrote this book, a history of Batavia and Westphalia (Holland), perhaps on commission for the country, as it seems many other histories of the like were penned in an effort by the Dutch government to chronicle and preserve its history. Various internet searches turn up a later (1652) edition of this work, although a 1645 entry can be found in an online database of a library in Innsbruck. 3 copies appear in libraries in World Cat searches. Bound in vellum with hand written titling and numbering on the spine. This copy is in GOOD condition. Light soiling to the covers. Moderate scuffing. Minor edgewear with some bumping and scuffing. Spine darkened. Small insect hole near foot of spine on the front cover. First 15 leaves with moderate worming at the tops of the pages, affecting text only on title page and engraved title page, but otherwise relegated to the top margin and lessening the further in the text one goes.
