London: George Newnes, Limited 1894, 1st Edition. () [6], 279pp. Very good. Octavo. Deep blue cloth with gilt stamped lettering on spine and front cover, black stamped illustration on front cover. Mild wear to boards with a small amount of professional restoration done to spine, bevelled edges. Light green grey endpapers decorated with a flower pattern. Minor professional repair to inner joints. Light foxing on endpapers and a few pages throughout. B / W frontis depicting 'The Death of Sherlock Holmes' and B / W illustrations on many of the pages. Tight text block. Gilt outer edge of text block. Illustrations by Sidney Paget. Eleven short stories by the famous Scottish author and physician, all centering around the famous fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes. The frontispiece displays the iconic depiction of Holmes and Moriarty at Reichenbach. The short story 'The Cardboard Box' is supressed from this edition (probably due to its inclusion of adultry) even though it had previously appeared along with the 11 other stories in Strand Magazine..
