sp; - London - Edward Gough, 1676. An instructional guide to seventeenth century society. A very scarce work, with no known copies sold in the last ten years. An early edition of this work which was first published three years earlier. Lacking the title page, preface, pages 3-4, 91-102, 110-111 and 135 to end. There arephotocopies provided for these missing leaves and therefore with the facsimiles this work is now complete to read. A fascinating look at seventeenth century society and their attitudes towards conduct. Condition: In contemporarypaper covered boards. Externally, worn. Heavy loss to the spine and extremities. Boards are heavily rubbed. Binding is almost split and several gatherings have loosening. Remaining binding is weak and may split fully with further handling. First leaf is lacking a large portion to the head. Several tide marks throughout to the top of pages, not affecting readability of text. Pages are slightly age toned with instances of scattered spotting. Prior owner's ink marks to page52 slightly obscuringthe text. Overall: FAIR. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
