A study on the mayfly under the influence of the Flemish mystic Antoinette Bourignon. On the one hand a careful scientific study, but on the other hand with moral and ethical conclusions on men's existence and behaviour. The work opens with a letter in French and Dutch from Antoinette Bourignon, and includes several poems. With the ownership's inscription of Johannes van Rijckevorsel (1654-1732?), a modern illustration of Van Rijckevorsel as painted by W. van den Eertbruggen and 19th-century owner's or bookseller's notations on the second flyleaf.
