The Life of Riley Season 1 Episode 16: Riley Steps Out (Original screenplay for the 1953 TV episode)
Burbank, CA: National Broadcasting Company [NBC], 1953. Draft script for the 1953 Season 1, Episode 16 television episode "Riley Steps Out." Copy belonging to a young Tom Irish, with his notes in holograph pencil throughout. Irish, who plays the bit part of "George," a date for Babs Riley, is uncredited for the role. In this episode factory worker Chester Riley and his wife attend a fundraising banquet with two tickets he took from his boss, unfortunately the tickets had not been paid for, and Riley's plan to take his wife on a fancy date severely backfires. Set in California. The last in an illustrative line of radio and television shows of the same name that were in part conceived of by Groucho Marx, "The Life of Riley" paved the way for years of blue-collar sitcoms to come, including "The Flintstones," "Married...with Children," "Roseanne," and more. Previous iterations of the show included a 1944 radio program, a 1949 film, and a 1948 television show starring Jackie Gleason that ran for 26 episodes, until William Bendix returned to the popular franchise's helm for a second television series in 1953 that ran for six seasons. Red titled wrappers, noted (incorrectly) as episode No. 15 on the front wrapper, production No. 9668, with credits for screenwriter Harry Clork.
