Signature Bb with fraying and resultant loss to head of leaf affecting running title and first two lines of text, signature *2 & *3 stained with sl. text loss to first leaf and portion to margin replaced, some browning and staining, old vellum, heavily stained, manuscript title and label to spine. With one of the earliest illustrations of forceps, anatomical illustrations and many plates depicting the foetus in womb in various stages and twins in the womb. Cushing G501 (incomplete) G & M 6012 An enlarged version of 6011 [edited by Caspar Wolff (1525-1601).] now edited by Bauhin. Wolff himself taking the work over from Konrad Gesner, who assembled the collection of these most important works on women and planned to publish them in a single volume, dying before the work could be finished. He asked his friend and successor at the University of Zurich Wolf to finish the job. Bauhin then edited the second edition in four volumes, and Israel Spach the third and final edition in 1597.
