HORSLEY, John
The case of John Horsley, Esq. late a Captain in the Royal Regiment of Horse Guards Blue.
London: W. Stewart, 1805. 8vo., (4) + 56pp., including the half-title, very light foxing/soiling of first and last leaves, recent marbled boards lettered on spine. A very good copy. First, and only, edition. This is evidently Captain Horsley's own defence with regard to his dismissal from the Army 'occasioned by a difference between him and a Mr. Edward Goulburn'. 'He was challenged by this Mr. Goulburn; refused him the satisfaction he required, was posted by him, and, in consequence of permitting that indignity, was ultimately obliged to quit the Regiment'. Edward Goulburn, a Lieutenant in the same Regiment, was, by common consent, 'so obnoxious, and [had] given such general dissatisfaction to the Corps' that he was forced to resign. 'Soon after, he thought proper to publish as a satirical poem, under the title of the Blueviad,> an infamous, malignant and scurrilous libel which indiscriminately attached the character, private conduct, and connections of almost every officer in the regiment .'.
