FISKE, Miss Ethel and Margaret Bradford AMES
Scrapbook - Theatre programs, Restaurant menus, newspaper clippings, Paris Theatre scene. Feb 1902 - July 1904; Opera Programs; Dining Menus from Paris restaurants
[1904], [Paris]. Two Albums. Oblong Quarto measuring 9 by 12 inches, green leather bound scrapbook with heavy cream leaves. First Album has gilt lettering stamped on cover: Album pour Collections. Both scrapbooks contain extensive clippings of opera and theatre performances in Paris during the 1902-1904 seasons . Miss Ethel Fiske travels with a female companion from the United States to Paris and resides in the city for 18 months. She is clearly a fan of the theatre as she has preserved many playbills and magazine clippings of shows and actresses. She has notated the dates of every performance she attended as well as many of the restaurants she dined in (she includes names or initials of her theatre and dinner companions). The newspaper clippings and theatre programs are in excellent condition, many have not yellowed. Also included are items from both her first class steamship crossings. Miss Ethel Fiske is not the famous American actress Mrs. Fiske although a clipping of Mrs. Fiske is included in the scrapbook. Her companion is confirmed as Frances Margaret Bradford Ames (later Mrs. Randall). Miss Fiske and Miss Ames traveled together to Paris and attend most of the theatre performances together; but Miss Fiske returns to Boston in the summer of 1904 without Miss Ames, according to the passenger list.
