Songs of a Sourdough ["21st edition" in variant jacket]
William Briggs, Toronto, 1909. [112pp]: [iv], 108 (last leaf ad); gilt olive buckram, jacket (unpriced & unclipped); 193 x 133 x 15 mm. The 21st impression of the author's first book, within the second Canadian edition (originally issued 1907, according to Mitham A1b.1) -- the first expanded edition, with seven additional poems (& corresponding jacket note, "New Revised and Enlarged Edition"). W. SERVICE" (as opposed to "SONGS OF A SOURDOUGH -- ROBERT W. SERVICE" as described). The "BRIGGS" imprint at foot is also here printed red. Front flap text concerns the Cambridge University Press edition of the New Church of England Book of Common Prayer and Book of Common Praise combined. Lower flap notes that Briggs is the Canadian representative for Mr J.M. Dent's new Temple Bible Dictionary & G. Campbell Morgan's The Teaching of the Lessons. Lower panel of jacket bears a publisher's ad headed: "BRIGGS' / SPRING ANNOUNCEMENT" (listing 18 titles with prices, including "A New Volume of Poems by Robert W. Service", the sole unpriced entry). Cloth lightly mottled with terminals lightly foxed. Jacket toned (as usual) & a bit dirty, with separation along lower joint (5.5cm) & tape-reinforcements at separation (within) & upper folds (within & without).
