W Wood
Zoography; Or, The Beauties of Nature Displayed, in Select Descriptions from The Animal, And Vegetable, With Additions from The Mineral Kingdom
LONDON : Cadell and Davies, 1807 A superb 3 volume set complete. In contemporary full leather bindings with gilt compartments and blind tooling to spine and red title and volume labels. The boards have a cross hatched patterning. Marbled endpapers and page edges marbled to match. With 60 full page aquatint plates and 2 aquatint vignettes. Wood describes a selection of animals, plants and minerals in what must have been an extremely expensive set of books to produce. The plates by William Daniell are superb. This set has a bookplate of Adam Duff on the front pastedown and his small signature to half title and title pages. The bindings have some wear - Vol I has some slight splitting at the joint between the front board and the spine - and there is some splitting internally at the fep. All have wear to the spine joints. Occasional scuffing to boards and a little bumping to corners. Internally the contents are in very good condition. There is occasional spotting and some sections of paper have a browner toning than others but all is clean and sound. Vol III has a very small brown mark at the outer page edge which is visible internally to p 22. There is a small repaired paper tear in the margin of p21, in vol I.
