Bound in half leather and marbled paper-covered boards, with gilt lettering and spine decoration. Recently rebacked. In Latin. The first leaf bears half-title on recto and portrait on verso. Includes a life of William Camden by Thomas Smith. The second part of the work has a half-title, Gulielmi Camdeni Annales ab anno 1603, ad annum 1623. The full extent of Camden's involvement in the intellectual, political, and international affairs of his generation also goes beyond his published writing and the professional offices that he held. A fuller measure of this involvement can be gathered from his correspondence, a significant part of which is collected in Thomas Smith's edition, V. cl. Gulielmi Camdeni et illustrium virorum ad G. Camdenum epistolae (1691), which also contains a reasonably full Latin life of Camden -ODNB. William Camden, 1551-1623, historian and herald. Camden's intellectual and literary legacy to his own and succeeding generations has been considerable. His work and friendship exerted both direct and indirect influence on writers and historians and helped transform the methods of historical enquiry and the forms and genres of their work.
