The prose translation of Bougainville tends to better highlight the philosophical qualities of this book, originally in Latin verse, published in 1745. This is not only a critique of the philosophy of Epicurus and Lucretius, but also a critique of ideas Sisters of Pierre Bayle and his disciples. The book played a role in the philosophical struggle.
