1904. William Taft William Howard Taft holds the unique honor of having been both president of the United States and the chief justice of the United States Supreme Court. Before then, he was Theodore Roosevelt’s Secretary of War.A steel engraving of Taft by Charles B. Hall with a facsimile engraved signature beneath the portrait, boldly signed by Taft beneath the engraved signature showing the remarkable consistency of his signature. Hall died in 1906 so the portrait would be from before that, probably when Taft was Theodore Roosevelt’s Secretary of War. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
