A fine collection of early California lithographs reproduced in book format, with useful descriptive text. Printing was done by A. Carlisle & Co., the successors of the firm of Britton & Rey from whose establishment most of the lithographs here reproduced were originally issued. In addition to being issued with an extra set of plates, the limitation statement indicates that this work was also issued with an original California newspaper of the era, as well as an original document, neither of which is present here. Still, scarce with the extra plates. Howes W164, "aa." Original three-quarter morocco and cloth with additional cloth portfolio. Extremities slightly rubbed. Modern bookplate on front pastedown.
