ROUEN. Hôtel-Dieu de la Madeleine
Anciens Concordats, Arrests Et l'Hôtel-Dieu de la Madeleine de Roüen
E. Viret, Rouen, 1672. Apparently the first publication on this poor hospital, staffed by male and female religious. From 1553, four texts give its charter, structure and mission. Two introduce later modifications, and the last piece, of early 1672, lays a new foundation, closely regulating the activities of monks and nuns in the secular community, restricting channels for patient admission and sacred access to secular dining facilities, mandating the exclusion of malingerers. It also ends the distribution of free candy (p. 44) - harsh. I have found two other copies (both Rouen). In good condition. Frère, Manuel du bibliographe normand I: 20 (the only publication on this hospital). Marbled wrappers stabbed as issued (spine gone) [Attributes: Soft Cover]
Bookseller: Bruce McKittrick Rare Books, Inc. [Narberth, PA, U.S.A.]
