Ripamonti, Giuseppe; Cusani, Francesco, trans
Tipografia e Libreria Pirotta e C., Milano, 1841. First edition in Italian. Five books in one. xxxv, 362pp. Contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards, spine lettered and decorated in gold. Head-pieces and initials. Originally published in Latin in 1840, the text documented the Great Plague of Milan, which almost halved the population of the city and cost the lives of tens of thousands more people in Northern Italy. Alessandro Manzoni used this account to describe in detail the effects of the plague in his masterpiece, The Betrothed. Light wear to extremities, some scattered foxing throughout, old faint dampstain affecting the lower part of the text block. A very good copy. In the Italian language. Graesse VI.129.; Quarto. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
Bookseller: Parigi Books, ABAA/ILAB [Schenectady, NY, U.S.A.]
