Shelley, (Mary) Mrs.
Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus
London: George Routledge & Sons, 1888. A most attractive copy of Routledge's Pocket Library edition of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein". This title was first published in 1818. Here is the definitive, expanded, text, which includes a new chapter and the informative Preface in which Mary Shelley describes the novel's genesis in the storytelling session at the Villa Diodati with her husband and Byron. This Preface was first published in 1831, and it is this text which is published in this edition also. The volume is bound in original quarter red cloth, with marbled boards as issued. Black gilt tooled title label to spine Black embossed border to boards. Small vignette to title page. Spine a little sunned although the gilt title still bright on the black title label. Overall a nice copy. xvpp + 317pp + 1p Routledge Pocket Library advertisement to rear... First Thus. Hardcover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
