A fine, beautifully produced first illustrated edition of this short story collection by noted Modernist author, Paul Morand. Beautifully illustrated, by popular illustrator, Chas Laborde. The illustrator contributed to many popular periodicals of his time including Vogue and Vanity Fair. He also produced advertisements and theatre sets. From the library of Lady Maxwell Scott, with her book ticket to the recto of front endpaper. Limited edition, numbered 527 of 550 copies. In French. In a lovely half calf binding, with the original wraps bound in. 'Tendre Stocks' was first published in 1921. It consists of three stories regarding independent young women. They are mostly set in London, where Morand had worked as a diplomat for the French Embassy. The tales are suffused with dark emotions of love, jealousy and regret. In a half calf binding, with marbled boards. Externally, excellent with just some light handling marks to the spine. Prior owner's ticket to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
