There are notes, written in pencil, above and below the bookplate, a describing de Bassville, who was ( born February 7, 1753, Abbeyville, France- died January 14, 1973, Rome, Papal State, Italy) a French journalist and diplomate whose death in Rome at the hands of the mob was exploited by the French Revolutionary governments as a greavance against the papacy.
