Paris, 1834. This folio, hand-colored lithograph is from Andre-Etienne de Ferussac and A. D'Orbigny's Histoire naturelle des Cà phalopodes Acà tabulifà res vivants et fossiles. The work was published in Paris by Lacour between 1835 and 1848.It is an exceedingly rare work. It was an impressive publication on cephalopods that introduced several new species. The plates were drawn by some of the best French artists of the period including J.G. Prêtre, A. Prà vosts, Oudart and Werner. Ferussac began work on this in 1822, but he died while the work was in progress and was completed by Alcide d’Orbigny. --- The work is in good to excellent condition overall. There are some scattered specks or foxing to the work. There may be a few minor imperfections to be expected with age.
