Publisher's beige cloth with scarlet stamping to the front board and spine. Pink top stain. A bookseller's ticket to the rear paste-down, several minor marks to the top edge and offsetting to both sets of end-papers still overall a VG++ copy. In the RARE D/W priced $2 to the inside flap. The D/W has a slither of loss at the spine ends but is otherwise bright and attractive. Inscribed by the Author in the year of publication. The basis for the gangster film of the same name directed by W S Van Dyke and starring Spencer Tracy, Gladys George and Franchot Tone (in one of his better roles) about the struggles and failures of a man trying to take a criminal shortcut to the American dream.
