HISTORY OF THE COLONY OF MASSACHUSETS-BAY, FROM THE SETTLEMENT THEROF IN 1628, UNTIL ITS INCORPORATION WITH THE COLONY OF PLIMOUTH, PROVINCE OF MAIN, &C. BY THE CHARTER OF KING WILLIAM AND QUEEN MARY, IN 1691 (TWO VOLUMES)
London: Printed for M. Richardson in Pater-noster Row, 1768. Two Volumes. Full contemporary calf with two spine labels each--red and black, with titles in gilt. Uniform octavos [8 1/2 x 5 /1/4 inches]. Corners bumped, top of spines have light wear and bit of light chafing to spines and along front hinge. Marbled endpapers with elaborate armorial bookplate of Michael Kearney, to each volume. Text clean, pages supple, binding tight. Deaccessioned stamp to verso of title page. Nice set overall. NOTE: Title of Volume II differs from that of Volume I, and reads: "THE HISTORY OF THE PROVINCE OF MASSACHUSETS-BAY, FROM THE CHARTER OF KING WILLIAM AND QUEEN MARY, IN 1691, UNTIL THE YEAR 1750". Hutchinson [1711-1780] was Governor of the Colony and as loyalist to Great Britain, he drew the ire of John and Samuel Adams for supporting British Taxes. He was also an historian and collected many historical documents relating to the Colony. Two other volumes were later written, but not issued as a set. Howes H853. Note: Volume 1 does not have the ending "v" on the date, but was printed in 1765, not 1760. Very Good. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
Bookseller: AARDVARK BOOKS, ABAA [EUGENE, OR, U.S.A.]
