Printed for A. Millar, London, 1764. 2 vols. 8vo, pp. [iv], 556; [viii], 503, [1]. Contemporary calf, red morocco labels, spines divided by raised bands between gilt rules, edges sprinkled red. Tear to one page neatly repaired, last page of volume one dustsoiled, otherwise a little light spotting. Rebacked retaining most of original backstrips which are somewhat darkened, old leather a little scratched. Bookplates and ownership signatures of Hannah Dockray to endpapers dated 1845, ownership signature of Clifton Pearce to front flyleaves dated September 1940, a few pencil lines to margins. The first two-volume edition following Hume's major renaming and re-ordering which led to the 1758 single-volume quarto.
