In a sumptuous fine binding by Simpson and Renshaw. Edited by Lord Campbell's daughter, Mrs Hardcastle. John Campbell was a Liberal politician and held many esteemed roles of office. He was the Lord Chancellor of Ireland, Chief Justice of the Queen's Bench, and Lord Chancellor of the United Kingdom. In a lovely full morocco binding by Simpson and Renshaw of London with the Campbell family crest gilt stamped to the morocco boards. Bookplate to the front pastedowns for one Arthur W Nicholson. Loosely inserted to volume I is a piece of paper with 'Gertrude Astley, From her Affectionate friend the Editor March 1883' this may well be from Mrs Mary Scarlett Hardcastle, Lord Campbell's daughter. With a portrait frontispiece of Campbell. Collated, complete. A comprehensive biography of this famed politician, in a beautiful fine binding with the bookmark ribbons present. In full morocco bindings with gilt stamping to the spines and to the boards. Externally, in a lovely condition with minor shelfwear to the joints, extremities and raised bands. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedowns, Arthur W Nicholson. Loosely inserted is a piece of paper signed by 'the editor'. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright with just a few spots to the tissue guard of volume I. Fine
