Second edition 1671, unchanged title imprint of the 1670 edition. Only a new titlepage was inserted. Dsb Vi, 253/9: Partington Ii, 209/42: Thorndike Vii, 219/40: van Helmont (1579-1644) '. was the most original alchemical or iatrochemical writer of the first half of the 17th century, in fact the most so since Paracelsus' (Thorndike). He coined the word 'gas'. After his death, his son published his papers in 'Ortus medicinae' (Amsterdam, 1648). of which this is a partial French translation in its second ed. [First published the year before in 1670]. Jean le Conte, of whom nothing seems to be known, attempted to obtain the fire of copper extolled by Van Helmont (Partington 240): Krivatsy 5440
