(Nice original marbled endp.). Darlow & Moule, vol. I, item 1599 [under 'Aneityum']: 'The first New Testament printed in a language of the New Hebrides. Translated by J. Geddie and J.Inglis. The translation was taken to England by Mr. and Mrs. Inglis, who began the work of revision during the voyage, and finished it in England, with the help of Williamu, a native of Aneityum.' The first Old Testament did not follow until 15 years later. The reverends Giddie and Inglis hailed from Nova Scotia and Scotland resp. were Presbyterian missionaries sent out to the New Hebrides. Rare."
