Hayward, K. J."
Genera et species animalium Argentinorum. Insecta Lepidoptera (Rhopalocera). Tomus Ii."
Bonariae (Buenos Aires), G. Krafft, 1950. Large 4to (35.3 x 26.3 cm). Several title and dedication pages, 388 pp., 26 plates (of which 12 in full colour). Original embossed and printed cloth. Pictorial endpapers. Edges red. The most important and by far the most beautiful illustrated work on the Rhopalocera of South America, published in a 19th century style. This copy is ample proof of how regrettable it is that such works are no longer issued. This part Ii, like part I deals with Hesperiidae, but part Ii is on Hesperiinae. The original descriptions of the species treated are repeated in full in their original languages. Only 1000 numbered (stamped and signed by the editor, Descole) copies were printed by Guillermo Krafft after drawings of various artists. This is copy number 206. Today all parts are very difficult to obtain. A third and fourth part were published much later, in 1964 and 1967 and are not included as well. A fine clean copy."
