William Clement, Jun. at offices of "Bell's Life", 1841. According to Hartley, there were no less than 26 editions of this work, published annually between 1841 and 1868. This is the first edition which he states 'can claim to be the first devoted to the provision of boxers' records.' Contains a 'Chronology of The Ring' detailing fights from 1785 to 1840 together with advice on training for pugilists, and taverns kept by ex-pugilists in London. First Edition. 12mo. viii + 306pp + 4pps of drawings showing 'boxing positions' + pp307-311. Original cloth boards with gilt image of two fighters to front, now very faded. New spine with gilt title. Gilt edges to all pages. There is the odd small internal repair and also some foxing, particularly to frontispiece. Original owner's name to title-page. A very good copy. [Attributes: First Edition]
